Intakes & key dates
- B.Sc Nautical Science & B.Tech Marine Engineering — one intake a year. Admission is through the IMU CET (applications usually open around March; the exam is usually held in May–June). Classes usually start in August–September.
- DNS & GME — several batches a year (often January and July/August), usually with sponsorship from a shipping company that interviews you first. Check each institute's batch dates.
- Medical fitness — you'll need a DG Shipping-approved doctor's certificate, including an eyesight test (colour blindness rules out deck and engine careers).
- Watch out for agents who charge for “guaranteed” sponsorship or jobs — genuine companies don't. DG Shipping publishes a list of licensed recruitment agencies.
