🗓️ When to go

The west coast (KL, Penang, Langkawi) is best December to March; the east coast islands are best March to October.

🚕 Getting around

Grab for taxis, LRT/MRT in KL, cheap domestic flights and comfortable intercity buses.

💡 Local tips

  • Penang's George Town is one of Asia's great food cities — go hungry.
  • Batu Caves is free to enter; dress modestly for the temple.
  • Touch 'n Go cards work on KL transit and many toll roads.

😅 What we wish we'd known

  • Langkawi is duty-free — prices on chocolates and electronics are noticeably lower there.
  • Afternoon thunderstorms are common year-round; plan outdoor activities for mornings.

Places worth the detour

  • Langkawi — A duty-free island of rainforest, mangrove kayaking and the SkyBridge hanging about 660 m above sea level.
