Bali's temples, rice terraces and surf — plus Java, Lombok and the Komodo islands beyond.

🛂 Visa for Indian passport holders

Visa on arrival or e-VOA, 30 days

Indian passport holders can get a 30-day visa on arrival (IDR 500,000), extendable once for another 30 days — apply online as an e-VOA before flying to skip the queue. Bali also charges a separate tourist levy, payable online.

🗓️ When to go

April to October is the dry season; November to March is rainy but green and quieter.

🚕 Getting around

Grab and Gojek apps for cars and scooters, private drivers by the day, and fast boats to the Gili islands and Lombok.

💡 Local tips

  • Hiring a driver for a full day is often cheaper than several separate taxi rides.
  • Carry a sarong for temple visits — many temples rent them at the entrance.
  • Only ride a scooter if you're experienced and licensed; accidents are common.

😅 What we wish we'd known

  • Bali traffic is slow — an hour on the map can easily be two in reality.
  • Money changers offering rates far above the market are a common trick; use banks or authorised booths.

Places worth the detour

  • Ubud & Uluwatu, Bali — Rice terraces, temple ceremonies and jungle cafés in Ubud, then clifftop sunsets and surf breaks down south in Uluwatu.
